Miami-Dade County recently approved a preferential berthing agreement with Margaritaville at Sea, according to county documents.

The proposed deal is expected to generate approximately one million passenger movements and at least $23.15 million in guaranteed revenues over the five-year term.

In a memorandum, Mayor Danielle Levina Cava said that the agreement also features targeted incentives designed to support off-peak utilization, enhance terminal efficiency and reduce traffic impacts on peak days.

The contract is expected to enter into effect upon the first call of Margaritaville at Sea at the port, which is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2027.

With two optional five-year renewal terms upon mutual agreement, the initial deal is valid through April 30, 2031.

The proposed contract is said to be designed to support passenger growth, operational efficiency, and year-round demand at PortMiami.

Consistent with other cruise line agreements, the county is offering Margaritaville at Sea a parking incentive based on the brand’s share of embarkations and a marketing incentive tied to the achievement of certain conditions.

The company may also receive either an operational incentive for a non-peak day or for evening vessel calls if applicable.

According to the memorandum, non-peak day and evening-call incentives would provide a 50 percent reduction of applicable port fees for qualifying calls.

The offer is aimed at helping reduce traffic impacts on peak days and encourage more efficient utilization of terminal capacity.

Only one operational incentive may apply per vessel call, and all incentives are structured so as not to reduce other fees payable to Miami-Dade County, the document added.

Margaritaville at Sea will deploy its largest ship, the Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber, in PortMiami starting in early 2027.

Sailing from South Florida on a year-round basis, the 2,720-passenger vessel is scheduled to offer a series of three- to eight-night cruises to destinations in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

Acquired by Margaritaville at Sea in 2025, the Beachcomber is currently sailing for Costa Cruises as the Costa Fortuna.

The 103,000-ton ship is set to undergo a major refurbishment before making its debut in the Caribbean and North America.
