Hagen Highlights Viking’s 2025 Milestones

  • January 4, 2026

Viking’s Chairman and CEO Torstein Hagen shared a video in which he reflected on the milestones his company achieved in 2025.

“The past 12 months have been busy for us at Viking. We continued to expand our fleet with the delivery of our newest ocean ship, the Viking Vesta,” he said.

As the company’s 12th newbuild, the 998-guest vessel was named in Split, Croatia, during a ceremony on June 30, 2025.

Hagen also highlighted the additions to Viking’s river fleet, which included the debut of nine riverboats over the year.

The new additions were marked by a simultaneous naming ceremony that also celebrated a milestone for the brand: the debut of its 100th vessel.

“Today Viking has more than 100 ships across our river, ocean and expedition fleet. Whatever in the world you would like to explore, you can do so in Viking comfort,” he added.

Hagen highlighted the company’s plans to add new destinations, which include new river cruises in India and more.

“This year also marked our first full year as a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. I’m proud to say that the transition from private to public has not changed our corporate culture,” he continued.

“We are still one Viking family with the same values we consider fundamental: kindness, honesty, hard work and thankfulness.”

Beyond its core operations, Viking also continued to support educational, cultural and scientific institutions.

“This year, we announced a sponsorship very close to home, becoming the main sponsor of the Norway National Soccer Team Academy and the country’s youth national teams,” Hagen said, noting that the academy gives young players the opportunity to develop further.

“It is meaningful for us to contribute to the next generation of talent. At Viking, we believe that, with hard work, nothing is impossible,” he added.

“Our 28th year in business was one that the entire Viking family can be proud of. As we look ahead to 2026, there is much to look forward to.”

Hagen highlighted the company’s fleet expansion plans, which include two new ocean ships being delivered: the Viking Mira and the Viking Libra.

“The Viking Libra is particularly exciting as she’ll be the world’s first cruise ship partially powered by hydrogen fuel cells,” he added.

The vessel will be able to operate with zero emissions while sailing in the Norwegian Fjords, Hagen continued.

“From the very beginning, we designed our ships thoughtfully to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions, and we are proud that the Viking Libra will take this commitment even further.”

Hagen said that overall bookings remain very strong, noting that the company has already sold 70 percent of its 2026 inventory.

“We have also opened departure dates for all of 2027, so I would recommend booking early for the widest selection of choices,” he continued.

“As we think about the new year and what lies ahead, it is also worth remembering why travel matters.”

He added that the company believes its “guests return home as ambassadors for the countries they visit and the people they meet along the way.”

“These cultural exchanges make us kinder to one another. It may sound simple, but we truly believe that the world is a slightly better place as a result of our travels.”
