The Carnival Panorama has adjusted the itinerary of its current cruise due to Hurricane Simon along Mexico’s Pacific coast.
According to a statement sent to guests onboard, the Carnival Cruise Line vessel is canceling planned calls to Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán and postponing its visit to Cabo San Lucas.
Sailing roundtrip from its homeport in Long Beach, the ship is currently on an eight-night Mexican Riviera cruise that departed Oct. 10.
“We’re sorry we were not able to visit Cabo San Lucas yesterday, as weather conditions made it unsafe to operate water shuttles,” Captain Salvatore Mangraviti said in a letter issued on Oct. 13.
He added that the ship was scheduled to make another attempt to visit the destination on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
AIS data indicates that the attempt was successful, with the Carnival Panorama currently anchored off the Mexican city.
“Regrettably, due to Hurricane Simon’s location, we’ll not be able to visit Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlán,” Mangraviti added.
Instead, the company arranged a visit to Ensenada, which is scheduled to take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
“We appreciate your patience as we adjust our plans in response to changing weather conditions,” the statement continued.
“Everyone’s safety remains our top priority, and we’ll continue to monitor conditions,” Mangraviti added.
Shore excursions purchased through Carnival for Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán will be refunded to passengers’ onboard accounts, while booked tours for Cabo San Lucas were adjusted to reflect the rescheduled port visit.
A series of hurricanes has been affecting the Carnival Panorama’s operations on the West Coast since late September.
As reported by Cruise Industry News, Hurricane Polo initially impacted the ship, which also had to change itineraries due to Hurricane Rachel.
