Protestors Block Access to Costa Maya Cruise Port

A group of protestors blocked access to the Costa Maya Cruise Port on Monday, according to a report from local media.

Riviera Maya News said that workers from Mayan Connection gathered at the main entrance of the port to protest unpaid profit-sharing benefits.

The protestors established a blockade, preventing the passage of vehicles, operational staff, suppliers and tourist vans.

The demonstration was said to have disrupted the operations at the Mexican cruise port, which was welcoming Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas.

El Sol Maya reported that scheduled shore excursions and transportation to adjacent attractions were affected by the protest.

Mayan Connection operates transportation services and tours in the Quintana Roo region, serving Costa Maya, Mahahual, Cancún and other destinations.

The workers said that they received a bonus instead of the agreed profit-sharing benefits, while the local company claimed it had no profits during that timeframe.

According to Diario Cambio 22, the protestors claimed that Mayan Connection’s allegation lacked validity and was a strategy to harm them.

A major port of call for ships cruising in the Western Caribbean, Costa Maya is regularly visited by vessels of a wide range of brands.

Originally built by a Mexican company, the port changed hands in 2025, becoming part of the portfolio of destinations owned by Royal Caribbean.

In related news, the U.S.-based company recently faced a setback in its project to build Perfect Day Mexico.

As reported by Cruise Industry News, the company was unable to secure approval to build its proposed Perfect Day Mexico.

The project would use part of the existing Costa Maya Cruise Port to create a private area for its guests, highlighted by a large water park and a series of beach clubs and retail spaces.
