The Gemini was reportedly arrested in Greece due to Miray Cruises’ debts with DenizBank, a Turkish financial institution.

According to HaberDenizde.com, the seizure of the 1992-built ship was confirmed earlier this week after a hearing by a Greek court.

Initially set to kick off its summer season in the Eastern Mediterranean in late May, the Gemini is currently anchored off Karistos in Greece.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, Miray recently postponed the start of this year’s operations, which also include itineraries to the Black Sea.

Approximately 25 crew members are currently onboard the 960-passenger vessel, according to the report from the Turkish website.

The workers, who reportedly haven’t been paid for the past two months, are said to be planning to abandon the ship, as it runs out of fuel and provisions.

HaberDenizde.com also reported that the Gemini, which was recently moved from the Bahamas to the Cameroon flag, has been declassified by Bureau Veritas.

In addition to DenizBank, other companies are also said to have financial claims against Miray, including insurance and tug providers.

Miray has reportedly been facing financial challenges since late 2025, when reports of unpaid wages among Gemini’s crew surfaced.

Crew Center said at the time that some workers were left at the Greek island of Salamina, with up to four months of unpaid salaries.

After completing its 2025 schedule, the ship entered its usual winter layup in Greece, waiting for this year’s summer season.

According to Miray’s website, the Gemini is now scheduled to welcome guests back in early July, kicking off a series of short cruises to Greece and Turkey.

In August, the 20,000-ton vessel is scheduled to offer weeklong itineraries in the Black Sea, sailing to Turkey, Russia and Georgia.

Originally built for Crown Cruise Lines in Spain, the Gemini was acquired by the Turkey-based company in 2020.

In related news, Miray was involved in the Life at Sea project, which aimed to offer a three-year world cruise that would allow guests to live onboard.

Unable to acquire a ship after investment challenges, the company called the project off in November 2023.
