The MSC Sinfonia delayed its scheduled arrival to Santos by over ten hours on Monday due to adverse weather conditions on Brazil’s southeast coast.

Offering a seven-night cruise to destinations in the country, the MSC Cruises vessel was originally set to dock at the Brazilian port at 8 AM on January 5, 2026.

With bad weather preventing it from departing from its previous port of call, the 1,900-guest ship was only able to dock at Santos around 07:00 p.m..

According to an update shared by the port’s cruise terminal operator, check-in operations scheduled for the day also faced significant delays.

The MSC Sinfonia arrived in Santos to conclude a seven-night cruise that started in late 2025 and included visits to other destinations in Brazil.

Before delaying its arrival at its homeport, the ship visited Itajaí for a call that was originally set to take place between 08:00 a.m. and 06:00 p.m.

However, due to the adverse weather conditions, the Sinfonia spent most of the night docked at the port, setting sail for Santos at around 04:00 a.m.

The 2002-built vessel is currently offering a regular weeklong itinerary that was introduced by MSC Cruises this season.

In addition to Santos, guests are able to board the vessel in Itajaí and Rio de Janeiro, setting sail for destinations that include Ilha Grande, Búzios and Ilhabela.

It’s unclear if the delayed departure from Santos will have any impact on this week’s planned itinerary and port visits.

In addition to the MSC Sinfonia, five other MSC ships are currently deployed in South America for cruises between Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

The vessels are offering a series of three- to nine-night cruises departing from a wide range of homeports, including Santos, Salvador, Maceió, Balneário Camboriú, Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

After starting in late October with the MSC Preziosa, the 2025-26 season in the region runs through early April.
