Royal Caribbean International released an infographic to celebrate the first year of service of the Icon of the Seas.
As the first ship in the company’s new Icon Class, the LNG-powered vessel kicked off its maiden season in January 2024.
“In just 12 months, the first-of-its-kind combination of the best of every vacation reached beyond the hype,” Royal Caribbean said.
According to the company, over 120,000 families sailed onboard the 5,610-passenger ship during the timeframe.
Sailing from its homeport in Miami, the Icon of the Seas made 180 stops at six destinations across the Caribbean: Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatán, St. Maarten, St. Kitts and St. Thomas.
The ship also paid 52 visits to Royal Caribbean’s private island destination in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Nearly 8,000 birthdays were celebrated onboard, and approximately 430 ice shows were presented in the ship’s Absolute Zero ice arena.
In the past 12 months, the ship’s main theater also saw 310 performances of “The Wizard of Oz and the Effectors: The Origin Story.”
The F&B sector also registered big achievements, with over 55,000 milkshakes served at Desserted, nearly 45,000 drinks served at the Lime and Coconut bars, and more than 1.5 million ice cream cones served at Sprinkles.
Built by the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the Icon of the Seas was delivered to Royal Caribbean International in late 2023.
After crossing the Atlantic with no guests onboard, the vessel embarked on its inaugural voyage on Jan. 27, 2024.
On that day, the Icon sailed from Miami for a seven-night cruise to the Caribbean that included visits to St. Kitts, St. Thomas and Perfect Day at CocoCay.
The vessel will be joined by a sister ship in 2025, with the new Star of the Seas set to enter service in August.
Sailing from Port Canaveral, the vessel is set to offer seven-night cruises to destinations in the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
