National Geographic Delfina to Make Lindblad Debut

Delfina

The new National Geographic Delfina is embarking on its maiden voyage for National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions this weekend.

Acquired from Celebrity Cruises in 2024, the 16-guest catamaran became the third vessel in the company’s Galapagos Islands fleet.

Along with the National Geographic Islander II and the National Geographic Endeavor II, the Delfina is now set to offer a series of seven-night expeditions around the islands.

As part of a 10-night package that also includes overnight stays in mainland Ecuador, the ship will sail to various islands in the Galapagos National Park, including North Seymour, Bartolomé, Santa Cruz and San Cristobal.

According to National Geographic-Lindblad, the cruise allows guests to see the region’s wildlife and nature with adventures by kayak, paddleboard and Zodiac.

Two veteran expedition staff will be onboard for each cruise, the company added, as well as snorkel guides for undersea exploration tours and a certified National Geographic photo instructor.

The Delfina is well-equipped for the operation, Lindblad continued, noting that the vessel offers stylish interiors and a stable double hull.

According to the company’s website, the catamaran is available as a private charter and is perfectly sized for a group of family and friends or an organization.

After undergoing a refurbishment in Ecuador, the National Geographic Delfina is set to offer year-round expeditions in the Galapagos.

Originally built as the Athala II in 2007, the ship had previously been in service for Celebrity Cruises as the Xploration.

Starting in March, a fourth ship will join the company fleet in the region with the debut of the National Geographic Gemini.

Currently undergoing an upgrade in Panama, the 100-guest vessel is scheduled to offer ten-night packages that combine land stays in Ecuador with seven-night expeditions in the Galapagos starting in March.

Acquired from Celebrity along with the Xploration, the 2001-built ship had been sailing as Xpedition since 2004.
