Costa Cruises’ Deliziosa is completing its tenth year of service this month after being delivered by the Fincantieri shipyard on Feb. 1, 2010.
As a sister to the 2009-built Costa Luminosa, the 2,260-guest ship was built at the shipbuilder’s Marghera facility.
According to Fincantieri, over 3,000 people were involved in the construction process, including 500 contracted suppliers.
Part of a five-ship fleet expansion program, the Deliziosa was built at a total investment of approximately 450 million euros, the shipyard added.
After a delivery ceremony in Venice, the 92,700-ton vessel sailed from Savona on its inaugural voyage on Feb. 5, 2010.
The cruise crossed the Red Sea and the Suez Canal ahead of a christening ceremony that took place in Dubai on Feb. 23, 2010.
As part of its maiden season, the Costa Deliziosa offered a series of seven-night cruises in the Middle East that extended through mid-May 2010.
The ship later returned to the Mediterranean before repositioning to Northern Europe for a summer season cruising to the Norwegian Fjords.
In late 2011, the Deliziosa became the first Costa ship to offer a world cruise as it departed from Italy for a 100-day itinerary.
The sold-out cruise circumnavigated the globe, visiting nearly 40 ports in Europe, North America, Asia and the South Pacific.
After undergoing a refurbishment in late 2024, the Costa Deliziosa set sail from Trieste on another world cruise.
Boasting a new itinerary, the 130-night journey included a stop in Rio de Janeiro for Copacabana’s New Year’s Eve firework display, in addition to visits to various destinations in South America.
Before returning to Italy in mid-April, the ship is set to visit approximately 50 ports of call in a range of countries around the globe.
Upon completing the itinerary, the Deliziosa offers seven-night cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean during the summer
