The Port of Rio de Janeiro welcomed Princess Cruises’ Majestic Princess for its maiden call on Jan. 7, 2025.
Offering an 18-night cruise around South America, the vessel stayed docked at Rio’s Pier Mauá Cruise Terminal for over 30 hours as part of an overnight call.
To mark Majestic Princess’ inaugural visit to Rio, a plaque exchange ceremony was held onboard on Jan. 8, 2025.
As part of the event, port executives, cruise terminal representatives and local authorities were joined by the ship’s officers and captain.
“We are happy to welcome the Majestic Princess in Rio de Janeiro for the first time,” Marcello Chagas, Pier Mauá’s port operations coordinator, told Cruise Industry News.
“Princess Cruises used to visit Brazil and Rio on a regular basis in the past. It is now back after a few years of absence, and we are very glad to welcome it back in our cruise terminal,” he added.
Operating in the region for the first time, the 2017-built vessel visited Rio de Janeiro as part of a open-jaw cruise that departed from Buenos Aires, Argentina, earlier this month.
Sailing to Fort Lauderdale, the itinerary features visits to destinations in Uruguay, Brazil and the Caribbean.
After leaving from Rio, the Majestic Princess made a visit to the Brazilian port of Fortaleza before sailing to Martinique and St. Kitts.
Before cruisingfrom Argentina, the ship also offered voyages to other regions of South America as part of a 51-night cruise that sailed from Los Angeles in late 2024.
The complete itinerary included visits to 19 ports of call in Mexico, Panama, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and the Falkland Islands.
In addition to the Majestic Princess, Rio de Janeiro also welcomed the Sapphire Princess for a maiden call in November.
Offering a winter schedule in South America, the vessel is scheduled to return to Pier Mauá for another visit in 2025-26.
