Two of Celebrity Cruises’ Galapagos-based ships ended their sailing careers for the company earlier this month.
After being sold to National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, the Celebrity Xpedition and the Celebrity Xploration completed their final cruises for Celebrity in the first week of January.
The small expedition ships are now set to undergo refurbishment work before debuting for their new owner.
Originally built for Sun Bay Cruises in 2001, the Xpedition was in service for Celebrity Cruises in the Galapagos since 2004.
Currently in Panama for a refit, the 100-guest ship will be renamed the National Geographic Gemini before embarking on its first cruise for Lindblad.
Starting in mid-March 2025, the vessel will offer a series of seven-night cruises to the Galapagos as part of a product that also includes overnight stays in mainland Ecuador and flights to the archipelago.
The Celebrity Xploration was acquired by Celebrity Cruises in 2016, as part of a transaction that included the acquisition of the former Celebrity Xperience.
Originally built as the Athala II in 2007, the 16-guest catamaran is set to launch service for Lindblad on Feb. 14, 2025.
Renamed the National Geographic Delfina, the vessel will offer cruises to the Galapagos as part of a ten-night package that also includes hotel stays, flights and transfers.
The vessels join Lindblad’s fleet in the region, which currently includes the National Geographic Islander II and the National Geographic Endeavour II.
While bidding farewell to the Xpedition and the Xploration, Celebrity Cruises maintains a year-round presence in the Galapagos with the 100-guest Celebrity Flora, which debuted in 2019.
