American Cruise Line’s new American Legend is embarking on its maiden cruise today in St. Petersburg, Florida.
A sister to the American Liberty, which also debuted this year, the 109-guest ship is the fourth in the company’s Coastal Cats series.
Built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, the American Legend was designed to offer coastal cruises in the United States.
For its maiden season, the vessel is offering a series of seven-night cruises to Florida’s Gulf Coast and the Keys.
Sailing round trip from St. Petersburg, the itinerary includes visits to Punta Gorda and Marco Island, from which passengers can embark on shore excursions to Everglades National Park.
The cruise is also highlighted by an overnight visit to Key West and a full day cruising in the Gulf of Mexico.
Continuing its first year in service, the American Legend is set to reposition to the East Coast in late February 2025.
After a one-way cruise that sails between Amelia Island, Florida, and Washington, DC, the vessel starts to offer American Cruise Line’s “American Revolution Cruise” in mid-March.
The itinerary sails round trip from Washington and features visits to several destinations in the Chesapeake Bay, such as Cambridge, Annapolis and St. Michaels.
Other destinations visited by the ten-night cruise include Yorktown, Mount Vernon, Williamsburg and Norfolk.
Starting in June, the American Legend is also poised to offer seven-night cruises to the New England region.
With departures from Boston and New York, the schedule includes ACL’s “Yankee Seaports” and “Cape Codder” cruises.
Completing its maiden season, the American Legend offers fall foliage cruises on the Hudson River before returning to Florida in November.
During the 2025-26 winter, the ship is scheduled to resume operations of the “Florida Gulf Coast & Keys” cruise.
In addition to the American Liberty and the American Legend, American Cruise Line’s Coastal Cat class also includes the American Glory and the American Eagle.
