HX Cuts Cruise Short to Accommodate Technical Maintenance

Roald Amundsen

HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) is cutting short a cruise onboard the Roald Amundsen to accommodate technical maintenance.

According to an update shared by the company on social media, the ship’s Sep. 14, 2024, voyage will now end two days earlier.

Sailing from Halifax to Boston, the expedition cruise was initially scheduled to sail across Canada and New England for seven nights.

Original ports of call in the itinerary included Sable Island, Lunenburg, Eastport, Rockland, Castine, Bar Harbor and Provincetown.

“We have some technical maintenance jobs that need to be done before the ship goes to Antarctica later this year, and unfortunately, that has to happen somewhere along this particular route,” HX said.

“Great thought was put into choosing the right time and place to minimize the impact on all guest voyages,” the company said while apologizing for the inconvenience.

According to feedback shared by guests, HX is offering two-nights of hotel accommodation in Boston, as well as a choice of excursions and free transfers to the airport.

Affected passengers are also said to be receiving a future cruise credit equivalent to 35 percent of the amount paid for the shortened sailing. The credit can be used for new bookings with the company.

Previously, in May, HX also canceled two cruises onboard the Roald Amundsen due to a delay in the ship’s routine drydock.

At the time, the company explained that the work was taking longer than planned due to unforeseen technical repairs.

Following the now shortened cruise in Canada and New England, the Roald Amundsen embarks on a 12-night cruise to the Caribbean in late September.

The ship also offers a trans-Canal cruise in early October, which will be followed by an 18-day expedition to South America and Patagonia ahead of the Antarctica season.
