Damen Welcomes Two Cruise Ships at the Same Time

Two ships at Damen

Damen Shiprepair has recently welcomed two cruise ships at the same time at its shipyard in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

According to an update shared by the facility, the Manara and the Nautica were in drydock simultaneously in late June.

Set to be renamed Aroya, the Manara is being prepared to launch service for Cruise Saudi’s new Aroya Cruises brand.

According to Damen, the 3,400-guest ship is being refitted and upgraded to provide an Arabian experience.

Sailing in the Red Sea, the Aroya is scheduled to offer a series of cruises to Egypt and Saudi Arabia starting in December.

Spending the summer in Northern Europe, Oceania Cruises’ Nautica arrived at Damen’s Rotterdam shipyard for a routine drydock.

During an intensive nine-day period, the vessel underwent extensive upgrades and maintenance, the facility explained.

After resuming service, the Nautica kicked off a series of ten- to 12-night cruises to the Baltic Sea, the British Islands and Scandinavia.

Another cruise ship, the Azamara Quest, is also being received by Damen Shiprepair this month. Currently in drydock at the shipyard’s Amsterdam facility, the vessel is undergoing routine maintenance.

According to the 2024 Drydock and Refurbishment Report by Cruise Industry News, work being carried out on the ship includes hull cleaning and painting, underwater inspections, inspections of stabilizers, rudders, propellers and bow thrusters.

Azamara is also optimizing the fuel efficiency of the 710-guest ship by modernizing large energy consumers such as propulsion by applying silicone paint to the hull.

Other initiatives include upgrades to the HVAC system with the replacement of older chiller units with more efficient ones and updating the air control distribution units.

In related news, the Carnival Splendor is also set to enter drydock this month. After leaving Sydney for Southeast Asia earlier this month, the Carnival Cruise Line vessel is scheduled to undergo a three-week refit at a shipyard in Singapore.
