Cruise Lines 2024 Q2 Breakdown: By the Numbers

Cruise Industry News takes a look at the financial performance of the “big three” following the second quarter of 2024.

Net income per passenger day was up for all three operators and was led by Royal Caribbean Group which posted $64.55 of net income per passenger day.

Gross revenue per passenger day for ticket revenue was led by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings at $263.60 with its trio of brands in Norwegian, Oceania and Regent, the latter of the two which represent a bigger mix of the company’s supply in the luxury market compared to industry peers Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean Group.

Net revenue per passenger day for onboard spending was led by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, at $98.51 per guest per day, while gross onboard revenue on a per passenger basis for NCLH was $126.76.

Operating expenses were down at Carnival Corporation, reported at $213.63 per passenger day, compared to $227.58 for Royal Caribbean Group, which was slightly up from 2023. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings had the biggest operating expenses on a per day basis, at $334.17 per guest, compared to $334.32 in 2023.
