Ambassador Cruise Line has announced that its search for the Great British Grandparent 2026 continues, inviting members of the public to nominate a grandparent, or someone who has taken on the role, who has made a difference to their lives or those around them.
The launch of the fourth annual search for the Grandparent of the Year follows research showing how grandparents remain the modern-day heroes of family life, continuing to give their time and energy to their children and grandchildren, the comapny said in a press release.
Claire Sweeney, actress, singer and Great British Grandparent campaign patron, said: “Grandparents contribute so much to family life and it is right that they are being celebrated. The Grandparent of the Year award is a fabulous opportunity to show the grandparent figures in our life the gratitude and appreciation they deserve.”
“My grandparents were instrumental in my life. My grandad bought me my first pair of tap shoes when I was 10 years old.”
“My grandparents also stepped in financially, helping fund dance and singing lessons. I was blessed to have them around. I now see the role grandparents play in the life of my 12-year-old son and I have a renewed respect for them,” added Sweeney.
“There is still time to send in your nominations so that they’re in with a chance to relinquish all grandparental duties and have a ball on a week-long cruise.”
The campaign runs until Sunday, November 15, 2026, with written, audio and video submissions welcomed on the Ambassador website.
An expert panel will judge all entries, and the Great British Grandparent 2026 will be announced just before Christmas.
As well as being honored with the Ambassador’s accolade, the winner will be treated to a complimentary week-long, full-board no-fly sailing for two to enjoy at a time of their choosing.
The inaugural Great British Grandparent in 2023 was Raymond Pearson from Essex, recognized for his support and dedication to his family. In 2024, the title went to Jeanette Townsend from West Sussex.
In 2025, devoted grandmother Janet Dinsdale from County Durham was named Great British Grandparent after her beloved niece and rock, Jane, nominated her for the extraordinary care and support she provided to her family after the loss of her daughter.
