Ambassador Cruise Line has announced that, to mark National Grandparents’ Day on Sunday, October 4, it is calling on the nation to shine a light on grandparents as it launches its fourth annual search for the Great British Grandparent 2026.
The company conceived the award to celebrate the role grandparents play in family life.
Christian Verhounig, CEO of Ambassador Cruise Line, said: “Grandparents are often the quiet heroes of family life, giving their time, energy, wisdom and support long after their own children have grown up without ever expecting anything in return.
“As a cruise line that specializes in holidays for the over-50s, we are proud to champion the silver generation, and our Great British Grandparent initiative provides a platform for people to recognize just how important and truly remarkable grandparents are.
“The search for the Grandparent of the Year is a chance to celebrate these individuals and the impact they have on those around them. Now in its fourth year, we’ve been fortunate enough to hear some incredibly special stories from people across the country, and we’re looking forward to finding another deserving winner to take the title in 2026,” added Verhounig.
The company said in a press release that the campaign invites members of the public to nominate a grandparent, or someone who has taken on the role of one, who has made an extraordinary difference to their lives or those around them.
The launch follows research commissioned by Ambassador that found grandparents continue to support their families long after their own children have grown up.
Those looking to nominate need to visit the dedicated entry page on the Ambassador website. They will be asked to fill in a short form, including a field where they can write up to 250 words on why their nominee should be crowned the Great British Grandparent 2026.
The page also includes a field where they can upload additional information to support their nomination.
An expert panel will judge all entries and draw up a shortlist of candidates, with Great British Grandparent 2026 announced just before Christmas.
Nominations are open until Sunday, November 15, 2026. The winner will be treated to a complimentary week-long, full-board no-fly sailing for two to enjoy at a time of their choosing.
