The World Residences at Sea recently made its inaugural visit to the Port of Sokcho in South Korea, according to an update shared by the ship’s management.
The residential cruise ship arrived at the destination in early October.
The company said that its guests were welcomed with a special ceremony that included a traditional band performance and a Korean traditional music quartet.
Sokcho also offered interactive experiences for passengers inside the city’s terminal, including Korean fan-making with names written in Korean, as well as a Hanbok experience.
Passengers were also offered an opportunity to take pictures dressed in traditional Korean costumes in a special photo booth.
The World said that hospitality continued through departure, with a fireworks display to send the ship off to its next port of call.
The operator added that the events made a “fantastic maiden call and a wonderful showcase of Sokcho-si’s warmth, culture and hospitality.”
Continuing its planned itinerary, The World is currently cruising in the Far East with planned visits to destinations in Japan, China, Taiwan and South Korea.
Among the ports set to welcome the ship are Hakodate, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Beppu, Dalian, Shanghai, Tianjin, Keelung, Busan, Jeju and Hong Kong.
In 2027, the ship is scheduled to visit 100 destinations, sailing to destinations in the Indian Ocean, Africa, Europe, North America and more.
The World underwent a significant refurbishment in early 2025, spending six weeks in drydock at the Navantia Shipyard in Spain.
Cruise Industry News reported at the time that over 200 projects were carried out onboard, involving approximately 1,500 personnel.
In addition to updating public areas, staterooms and venues, the refit aimed at improving the ship’s sustainability features.
The World said that the projects “ushered in a new era of environmentally responsible and elevated luxury living at sea.”
