Royal Caribbean has added “The SpongeBob Musical” to the entertainment lineup on its upcoming ship, the Hero of the Seas.
The fourth Icon-class ship, which was recently floated out at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, is scheduled to set sail from Miami in August 2027.
Playing at the Royal Theater, the musical will reimagine the Nickelodeon animated series and 12-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway show for the whole family.
According to a company statement, this is the first-ever at-sea production of the musical.
“At Royal Caribbean, we’re focused on creating incredible experiences that bring families of all ages together in meaningful, memorable ways,” said Christi Coachman, vice president, entertainment, Royal Caribbean.
“Our entertainment lineup on Hero of the Seas is designed with something for everyone. ‘The SpongeBob Musical’ delivers on that by bringing generations together through a story families know and love, while showcasing the creativity, cutting-edge technology and world-class production that can only be experienced on a Royal Caribbean vacation.”
Once it sets sail, the Hero will take guests on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami, with every sailing visiting Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day CocoCay in The Bahamas.
Guests will be able to explore Western Caribbean spots like Cozumel, Mexico and Roatan, Honduras, or head to tropical Eastern Caribbean destinations such as Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, the 250,800-ton ship will feature eight neighborhoods, with experiences including one of the largest water parks at sea, Category 6, and nine pools, among other things.
