The Royal Caribbean Group shared a behind-the-scenes look at the recent refit of the Harmony of the Seas.
As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, the Oasis-class ship underwent a major refurbishment in Cádiz, Spain, earlier this year.
According to the company, its Newbuild Solutions team was responsible for the project, which was part of the Royal Amplified fleet modernization program.
Royal Caribbean highlighted the role of Stephanie Campos, who served as project associate during the refurbishment.
The company said the drydock was a “fast-moving, high-pressure effort that brought together departments, contractors and project teams.”
Campos and the Newbuild Solutions team led the planning, execution, delivery, handover and post-delivery closeout of the modernization.
“Her role sat at the center of the daily operation, keeping information flowing, logistics moving and stakeholders aligned across the many moving pieces of the revitalization,” Royal Caribbean stated.
The company said Campos gathered updates from stakeholders for daily morning presentations, which were followed by walk-throughs with other team members.
She also worked on contractor support, meal coordination, local material sourcing, project office needs and more.
“Some of the most critical work happened before teams ever stepped onto the ship,” Royal Caribbean said, noting that yard entry requirements, manifests and contractor movements required constant coordination with operations.
“When scheduling conflicts surfaced across the Main Neighborhood, the team responded by creating cross-functional alignment sessions where stakeholders could review priorities, identify dependencies, and shape a shared execution plan,” the company continued.
Royal Caribbean said the result was a multi-department master schedule that gave teams a clear roadmap for execution and reaffirmed the importance of communication for the project.
Campos and her team prioritized a better understanding of stakeholders’ challenges and needs, the company added.
“Those conversations helped her see how each contractor’s work connected to the overall project and where Newbuild Solutions’ scope intersected with Marine’s.”
Royal Caribbean noted that this understanding made it easier to anticipate needs, including material procurement, ship protection, access requirements and other operational support.
The team leaned into the same approach when obstacles arose, with core team meetings giving stakeholders a forum to raise issues, share updates and work through solutions together.
“Guests may never see the master schedules, contractor manifests, daily presentations or late-day coordination that helped bring the revitalization together. They may not think about the electrical work, piping, demolitions, or careful planning required to build within existing spaces,” Royal Caribbean said.
“But they’ll feel the result when they step into refreshed venues, move through transformed areas … and create new memories onboard,” the company added.
The Harmony of the Seas debuted its new features earlier this year, offering itineraries in the Western Mediterranean before returning to Port Canaveral.
