TUI has released an update about the upcoming repair work on Mein Schiff 3, which was damaged in a collision with a container ship earlier in the week while leaving Bremerhaven in rough conditions.
While experts in Bremerhaven, where the ship is currently located, are still determining the extent of damage to determine whether additional cruises would be canceled, TUI confirmed that the damage requires repair work at a shipyard.
The company has shared that Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven was selected to carry out the repair work on Mein Schiff 3, which is expected to move to its pier on Sunday, November 1.
While no one was injured, the cruise line was forced to cancel its planned trip to the Canaries due to the damage sustained in the incident.
“The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority in every decision. Our specialist departments are working intensively to create the conditions for a safe resumption of cruise operations. Since the damage also affects lifesaving equipment, it must be ensured before the next voyage that the required lifesaving capacity is available for everyone onboard,” the statement reads.
The company added that it expects to have more clarity at the beginning of next week and to be able to assess whether and to what extent subsequent voyages would be affected, noting that booked guests and partners would be notified as soon as new information becomes available.
According to data from TUI’s website, the next cruise Mein Schiff 3 is scheduled to sail is the 14-night “Enchanting Norway” itinerary November 14-28, roundtrip from Bremerhaven.
