Carnival Corporation and its subsidiaries Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises donated $25,000 to Direct Relief to support recovery efforts in Hawaii.
The region was struck by a series of hurricanes this season, including Lala, Lowell, Rachel and Polo, as well as several powerful storms.
The combined $25,000 donation includes contributions from Carnival Corporation and each of the three cruise lines to assist immediate relief needs being managed by Direct Relief in the wake of Hurricane Nolo, according to a company statement.
Direct Relief is working with local health care providers, nonprofits and health agencies to determine ongoing recovery needs.
Thanks to its Hurricane Preparedness Program, medical aid and supplies are provided to health care teams, as well as field medic packs to support triage care, water purification supplies and personal care items for displaced individuals and families.
Carnival ships call more than 200 times annually to five different Hawaiian destinations, including Nawiliwili, Kahului, Honolulu, Hilo and Kailua Kona, bringing approximately 528,000 guests to the region.
The cruise line was recently forced to adjust the Carnival Panorama’s itinerary for a second time due to a series of hurricanes in the area.
In September, the itineraries of the Grand Princess and the Ruby Princess were also affected by hurricanes.
