Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has announced that, in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day, it led a volunteer event dedicated to protecting South Florida’s marine environment.

The company had teamed up with the National Hockey League, former Florida Panthers forward Peter Worrell and Force Blue for the initiative.

The event brought together more than 60 volunteers from NCLH, Force Blue, the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and Debris Free Oceans to remove marine debris and support coastal habitat restoration in one of Miami-Dade County’s important coastal areas.

The company said in a statement that Worrell worked alongside NCLH team members to collect debris from the shoreline before meeting with volunteers for photos.

Force Blue also supported cleanup efforts in the surrounding waters. The initiative united South Florida’s maritime, environmental, veteran and hockey communities around a shared commitment to protecting the region’s marine environment.

The company added that through NCLH’s Sail & Sustain program, it is focused on helping to protect the destinations and marine environments that its guests, team members and local communities value.
