The Gemini is being auctioned in Greece to cover Miray Cruises’ debts, according to a local news report.

Arrested earlier this year, the 1992-built ship is currently docked at a port near Piraeus after being towed by Greek authorities.

Financial and business news portal New Money said the auction will take place on October 21, 2026, with a first bid price of 3,805,462 euros. The amount was set based on the ship’s estimated scrap value.

The website added that the auction is being organized by Anira Shipping Services to satisfy a monetary claim of approximately 22,772 euros.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, the Gemini was seized in June after spending two months anchored off Karystos, Greece.

At the time, local sources said the 960-passenger vessel was arrested by a Greek court due to Miray Cruises’ debts with DenizBank, a Turkish financial institution.

Miray was also facing labor issues, with crew members onboard the ship accusing the company of not paying salaries.

The situation later evolved into a formal process within the International Labor Organization, which classified the vessel as “abandoned.”

New Money’s report says the Gemini is under the jurisdiction of the Eleusis Coast Guard, banned from sailing in Greece, and is being offered “as is, where is.”

The Greek website mentions a recent technical report by a local naval architect and mechanical engineer who evaluated the ship’s current state.

According to the source, the 20,000-ton vessel is not in good condition due to a continued lack of maintenance.

The report highlighted particular problems with onboard piping, in addition to the need for steel replacement in many areas due to corrosion. Other reported issues include certification withdrawals and the lack of a legal flag.

New Money added thatthe ship’s mechanical, rescue, firefighting, hotel, anchoring and mooring equipment cannot be described as being in poor shape.

The report noted that these assets are unmaintained but can be used on other ships as spare parts or even as they are.

Offering cruises to the Greek Islands from Turkey, the Gemini was last in service during the 2025 summer season.

Miray planned to operate the ship in the Aegean and the Black Sea in 2026, but plans were scrapped following the arrest.
