The Westerdam arrived in Japan in late September to kick off a fall season in the region for Holland America Line.

Having completed a summer deployment in Alaska, the 2004-built ship offered a transpacific cruise before docking in Tokyo on September 27, 2026.

The 13-night repositioning voyage sailed from Vancouver and included a visit to Ketchikan, in addition to calls at the Japanese ports of Kushiro and Aomori.

For its first sailing in the Far East this season, the Westerdam is offering a 14-night voyage that will circumnavigate Japan’s Honshu Island.

Sailing roundtrip from Tokyo, the cruise is also scheduled to sail to South Korea, visiting ten destinations, including Toyama, Sakata, Kobe, Kochi and Busan.

The deployment runs through early November, when the ship starts to offer varied itineraries to Southeast Asia that sail between Hong Kong and Singapore.

In early 2027, the vessel is also set to offer Holland America’s “Coral Triangle & Great Barrier Reef,” which will sail to Australia and the South Pacific.

Additional cruises in Japan are scheduled for the spring of 2027, ahead of a repositioning voyage back to North America.

Part of Holland America’s six-ship season in the region, the 1,900-passenger vessel will sail in Alaska starting in mid-April 2027.

The Westerdam is one of the Holland America ships scheduled to undergo a major refurbishment as part of the company’s Evolution update program.

While a specific date for the ship’s drydock is still set to be announced, the project includes upgrades to public areas and existing staterooms.

With refits planned for 2027 and 2028, the first two vessels to undergo the refit, the Oosterdam and the Zuiderdam, will also welcome a series of new single balcony staterooms.

Other changes include the addition of the Grand Dutch Café, which was previously available on the cruise line’s newest ships.
