The Golden Horizon is currently heading to Malta after spending several years laid up at the Brodosplit Shipyard in Croatia.

According to AIS information, the vessel departed from Split earlier this week and is scheduled to arrive in Valletta on September 25, 2026.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, local sources in Croatia informed that the tall ship has been sold to an undisclosed buyer.

A new report by dnevnik.hr said that the Golden Horizon is expected to undergo a refurbishment upon arriving in Malta.

“Most likely to be cleaned of fouling due to the standstill,” Josip Jurišić, spokesperson for Brodosplit, was quoted as saying.

He added that the ship doesn’t hold any sanctions; otherwise, it would not be able to sail from the shipyard.

Jutarni.hr said that the 8,770-ton ship was sold to a company earlier this month as part of a 110 million euro deal.

Little is currently known about the sale, with the Croatian website saying that the new owner is a Swiss shipowner that currently operates 100 vessels.

Originally ordered for Star Clippers as the Flying Clipper, the Golden Horizon was built at the Brodosplit Shipyard but was never delivered.

Instead, the 300-passenger ship remained in Croatia before being chartered to startup Tradewind Voyages in 2020. The company was short-lived and had to cease operations in 2022.

Brodosplit is also reportedly aiming at finishing the construction of the Janssonius, which was originally ordered for Oceanwide Expeditions.

Designed as a sister to the 2019-built Hondius, the 174-passenger expedition vessel was initially scheduled to enter service in 2021.
