The Golden Horizon was reportedly sold to a Swiss shipping company, according to a local source in Croatia.

Originally ordered for Star Clippers as the Flying Clipper, the 300-guest vessel was built at the Brodosplit Shipyard in Croatia but was never delivered.

Renamed Golden Horizon, the 8,770-ton ship was shortly in service for startup Tradewind Voyages but spent most of the past five years in layup in Croatia.

Jutarni.hr now reports that Brodosplit secured an agreement to sell the vessel to an undisclosed company for 110 million euros.

The Croatian website said that while contractual obligations prevent the shipyard from revealing more information, the purchaser is a Swiss company that “operates around 100 ships.”

“We have finally signed a contract to sell Golden Horizon. The knowledge, infrastructure and people are still here. Most of the people are here,” Tomislav Debeljak, CEO of Brodosplit’s parent company DIV Group, was quoted as saying.

He added that the shipyard is currently struggling due to lack of funding related to the “start of the war in Ukraine and the slow reaction of Croatian institutions.”

“The sale of Golden Horizon is the first step towards stabilization. We want to complete the ships, bring back the people and show that Brodosplit has a future,” Debeljak added.

The news source also said that Brodosplit is currently pursuing a plan to resume construction of the Janssonius.

Planned as a sister to the 2019-built Hondius, the expedition vessel was ordered by Oceanwide Expeditions and was initially scheduled to enter service in late 2021.

The 194-passenger ship floated out of its building dock in early 2021, but construction was reportedly suspended due to financial issues.

Jutarni.hr noted that the Janssonius’ construction progress is currently near 70 percent completion.
