The Carnival Sunshine will return to its Norfolk homeport one day later than scheduled due to a nor’easter off the U.S. East Coast.

The ship had been due back on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the end of an eight-night Canada cruise that visited Halifax, Sydney and Saint John.

“Our Fleet Operations Center is actively monitoring the nor’easter affecting portions of the U.S. East Coast,” Carnival said in a statement sent to guests booked on the ship’s next sailing.

“The Carnival Sunshine is currently sailing south to Norfolk after completing its Canadian itinerary. Due to the storm’s location and in the interest of the safety of everyone onboard, we reduced the ship’s speed and adjusted course toward calmer waters,” the company continued.

“As a result, we now expect to arrive in Norfolk on Monday, September 28, 2026, and your cruise will operate as a five-day voyage with a modified itinerary to the Bahamas,” Carnival explained.

That cruise was originally planned as a six-night sailing to Celebration Key, Bimini and Nassau.

“While it’s always our intention to operate as originally planned, weather conditions sometimes require changes for safety reasons,” the company added.

“We regret the disappointment this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” Carnival said, noting that it would share further updates on the revised sailing on Saturday.

The 1996-built, 3,000-passenger ship is the latest in a growing list of vessels affected by weather on the East Coast since the end of last week.

As reported by Cruise Industry News, the Carnival Venezia, the Norwegian Escape and the Vision of the Seas also adjusted their itineraries because of the nor’easter.

On the West Coast, meanwhile, ships have canceled calls in Mexico due to Hurricane Polo.
