The Rotterdam recently completed its fifth year of service for Holland America Line, having been delivered on July 30, 2021.

Currently the newest vessel in the company’s fleet, the Pinnacle-class ship was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy.

The seventh vessel to carry the Rotterdam name for Holland America, the ship was originally named the Ryndam.

The new name was given while the vessel was still under construction in 2020, following the sale of the sixth Rotterdam.

Delivered amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the 99,000-ton ship remained in non-guest operations for a few months before welcoming its first guests on October 20, 2021.

On that day, the Rotterdam embarked on a trans-Atlantic crossing that sailed from Amsterdam to Fort Lauderdale.

The 14-night voyage featured visits to three destinations: Le Havre and Brest in France, as well as Portland in the United Kingdom.

Upon arriving in Florida, the ship kicked off its maiden season, offering cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas departing from Port Everglades.

The five- to 11-night itineraries were highlighted by visits to Holland America’s private island destination of Half Moon Cay, as well as an array of destinations in the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean.

The Rotterdam returned to Northern Europe in May 2022 and was christened in the Netherlands ahead of launching its first season in the region.

With Princess Margriet of the Netherlands serving as godmother, the ceremony took place in Rotterdam on May 30, 2022.

Later that year, the 2,660-passenger ship also offered a commemorative trans-Atlantic crossing that celebrated Holland America’s 150th anniversary.

The Rotterdam continued to offer similar itineraries throughout its first five years of service, alternating between winter seasons in the Caribbean and summer deployments in Northern Europe.

In 2027, the vessel is scheduled to make its debut in the Mediterranean for a fall season that will include five new itineraries.
