Costa Cruises is expanding its “Sea Destinations” initiative to South America in early 2027, with two new experiences onboard the Costa Serena.

According to the company’s website, the 2007-built vessel will offer two exclusive parties in Brazil as part of the initiative.

The onboard programming will be available on longer cruises sailing between Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, and will include experiences at Rio de Janeiro and Balneário Camboriú.

“Baía de Camboriú” is described by the company as an “ocean skyline party” that will take place as the ship leaves Balneário Camboriú.

According to Costa, passengers will be able to see the towering skyscrapers of the city from a front-row seat during a party designed to “bring the destination to life, blending glamour and style with authentic Brazilian energy.”

“Baía de Copacabana” will celebrate what the company called the “Carioca sunset ritual” with the Serena anchoring in front of the beach in Rio de Janeiro for the golden hour.

Costa said that the Sugarloaf Mountain, the Copacabana skyline, and the lights of Rio will create the perfect setting for a “collective celebration inspired by the city’s authentic sunset ritual” featuring Brazilian rhythms and other exclusive experiences.

Costa’s “Sea Destinations” were launched in early 2024 for itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

At the time, the company said it was introducing new onboard programming tied to destinations visited by its ships.

Offered during navigation between traditional ports of call, the new “Sea Destinations” were said to allow passengers to immerse themselves in a voyage within a voyage.

One of two Costa ships sailing in South America for the 2026-27 season, the Costa Serena will operate cruises to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

Departing from Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo, the 3,012-passenger ship offers three- to nine-night itineraries to a range of destinations.

Highlights of the schedule include visits to Ilha Grande, Ilhabela and Punta del Este, as well as a stop in Copacabana for the beach’s New Year’s firework display.

The Costa Diadema will also sail in the region during the upcoming winter, offering additional itineraries to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

During most of the season, the 2014-built vessel offers seven-night cruises that sail to Santos, Itajaí, Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Passengers will be able to join the Diadema in every port of call.
