Norwegian Sun Experiencing Technical Issues in Northern Europe

Norwegian Sun in Europe

The Norwegian Sun is experiencing technical issues that are affecting the itinerary of its current cruise in Northern Europe.

The Norwegian Cruise Line ship is currently offering a nine-night cruise to the Baltic Sea that departed from Helsinki on June 24, 2026. The ship arrived in the region in June.

Sailing to Copenhagen, the open-jaw itinerary was initially scheduled to visit seven additional destinations in Estonia, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany.

According to a statement sent to guests onboard, the cruise had to be adjusted due to an issue requiring the Norwegian Sun to sail at reduced speeds.

After cancelling planned visits to Nynashamn, Klaipeda and Gdynia, the company recently made further adjustments to the ship’s itinerary.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this technical issue,” Norwegian said in its letter.

“Since our last update, our technicians have identified the required repair solution. To accommodate the time needed to support these efforts, we need to make one further adjustment to our itinerary,” the company continued.

“The Norwegian Sun will now remain overnight in Copenhagen, Denmark, for an additional evening,” Norwegian explained.

As a result, a planned visit to Kiel, Germany, had to be cancelled, the company continued, noting that the itinerary change could impact guests’ travel plans.

The company also previously added a visit to the port of Ronne in Denmark, which was not on the original itinerary but took place on June 29, 2026.

“We sincerely appreciate the flexibility, patience and understanding you have shown throughout this voyage; we remain committed to making the remainder of your journey as enjoyable and memorable as possible,” Norwegian added.

As a gesture of appreciation, the company will provide passengers with a 25 percent refund for the fare paid for the cruise.

“This is in addition to the $100 non-refundable onboard credit per stateroom, complimentary basic internet access and the 25 percent Future Cruise Credit for each guest that was previously communicated,” Norwegian noted.

Following a previously scheduled visit to Warnemunde, the Norwegian Sun is scheduled to remain docked in Copenhagen for three days starting on July 1, 2026.

The company said that shore excursions acquired via Norwegian for Kiel have automatically been cancelled, with a full refund to be credited to guests’ accounts.
