Costa Serena Starts Farewell Season in Asia

Costa Serena

The Costa Serena is operating its farewell season in Asia after more than a decade of sailings in the region.

Scheduled to reposition to the Western Hemisphere later this year, the Costa Cruises vessel is currently offering itineraries departing from Naha in Japan and Keelung in Taiwan.

The schedule includes a series of two- to five-night cruises in the region, visiting destinations such as Ishigaki, Keelung and Miyakojima.

Longer sailings will visit additional destinations in Japan and South Korea, such as Nagasaki, Sasebo, Fukuoka, Busan and Yeosu.

In September, the vessel will arrive in Shanghai for its farewell to China, offering cruises between China and destinations in South Korea and Japan.

The Costa Serena is then scheduled to offer a 65-night world cruise in late October, sailing from Tokyo to Buenos Aires.

The itinerary sails to Australia, the South Pacific and South America and is highlighted by an overnight visit to Bali in Indonesia, as well as stops in French Polynesia.

Before starting the voyage to Argentina, the 2007-built ship is also scheduled to serve as a floating Olympic Village during the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and Para Games.

Accommodating athletes during the games in Japan, the Serena is expected to remain docked in Nagoya between September 19 and October 4, 2026.

In late 2025, the 3,012-passenger ship underwent a refit as part of Costa’s 200-million-euro fleet revitalization program.

The project included updates to the vessel’s interiors and public areas, which were given a fresher design inspired by a “pop art” style.

Other significant enhancements included the addition of what Costa called “a vibrant new food court,” with the debut of new specialty restaurants, such as Sushino@Costa and Pizzeria Pummid’Oro.

For its return to the Western Hemisphere, the Costa Serena is scheduled to offer itineraries in South America, with cruises departing from Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.

The vessel will then reposition to Europe in early 2027, taking over the deployment currently operated by the Costa Fortuna. Sold in 2025, the 2003-built ship will be handed over to Margaritaville at Sea this September.
