Nicko Cancels More Cruises on Vasco da Gama

Vasco da Gama

Nicko Cruises recently cancelled two additional cruises onboard the Vasco da Gama, bringing the total of cancelled voyages to five.

The 1994-built ship has been out of service since late April for repairs, after experiencing technical issues during the final leg of its world cruise.

According to Schiff und Kreuzfahrten, the new cancellations include a charter cruise that was scheduled to sail from Kiel on June 9, 2026.

The five-night cruise was set to be followed by an 18-night voyage to Scandinavia and Iceland on June 14, 2026, which was also cancelled.

In a statement sent to affected guests, Nicko reportedly said that a recent assessment pointed to the need for additional repair work.

The company noted that the decision to extend the shipyard stay was driven by its focus on the safety of its guests and the quality of the travel experience.

While passengers of the chartered sailing are asked to contact the cruise operator for further information, guests of the June 14, 2026, departure are being offered three options.

In addition to receiving a full refund, guests can choose from rebooking a similar sailing in 2027 or receiving a future cruise credit for another river or ocean cruise with Nicko.

For passengers who opt to rebook, the company is also offering a ten percent discount on their new cruise.

The cancellations were recently addressed by Mário Ferreira, CEO of Nicko’s parent company, Mystic Cruises.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, Ferreira said that the decision was the responsible choice, noting that the Vasco da Gama is a “classic ocean vessel with a long and proud maritime history.”

“Ships of this character and quality require continuous care, attention, and preventive technical maintenance to ensure they continue operating safely and reliably for many years to come,” he explained.
