Royal Caribbean’s Ovation Drops Scenic Cruising Near Hubbard Glacier

The current cruise aboard the Ovation of the Seas is dropping planned scenic cruising near Hubbard Glacier, according to a letter sent to guests onboard.

After departing from Vancouver on Friday, May 15, 2026, the one-way cruise to Alaska was scheduled to visit the area on Thursday, May 21.

According to Royal Caribbean’s statement, the scenic cruising was replaced with a sea day due to a change to the cruise’s disembarkation port.

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, the ship was initially set to end the voyage in Seward but got diverted to Whittier due to port construction.

“Due to schedule adjustments to ensure our timely arrival into Whittier, we’ll be adjusting our itinerary and will continue with a full day at sea instead of cruising Hubbard Glacier,” the company explained.

“The ship will arrive to the port of Whittier on Friday at 1:00AM to begin luggage operations; and debarkation will begin at 6:00AM for all guests,” Royal Caribbean added.

The company also encouraged guests to use the letter for insurance purposes, noting that all shore excursions for Hubbard Glacier were cancelled and will be refunded.

Passengers cruising on inside and oceanview staterooms will receive a $150 credit per cabin, while guests on balcony staterooms will get $200 credit per cabin and suites will receive $400 per cabin.

Royal Caribbean is also offering an additional $25 onboard credit per person for third and fourth passengers.

“We understand that changes to planned itineraries can be unexpected, and we’re sorry for any disappointment this may cause,” the company added.

“Our teams have carefully reviewed our plans to ensure we continue to provide you with a seamless and enjoyable experience onboard.”

As part of its seven-night itinerary, the Ovation of the Seas visited Ketchikan, Sitka and Skagway after departing from Vancouver.
