MSC Changes Plans for 2026-27 Season in South America

  • February 4, 2026
MSC Lirica in Iitajaí

MSC Cruises is adjusting its plans for the 2026-27 winter season in South America, the company announced in a statement.

According to the letter sent to travel agents, the MSC Lirica will no longer sail in the region during the timeframe.

The 2003-built vessel was initially part of a five-ship lineup in the region, which also includes the MSC Virtuosa, the MSC Divina, the MSC Splendida and the MSC Musica.

MSC noted that, with the redeployment of the MSC Lirica and a previously announced refurbishment of the MSC Musica, for the first time, all of the ships in the region will offer its ship-within-a-ship product, the MSC Yacht Club.

The company said that its 2026-27 season in South America marks a new phase, with significant product enhancements and strategic adjustments that elevate the onboard experience.

MSC explained that the redeployment of the MSC Lirica was necessary due to “adjustments related to the refits of the Musica-class ships.”

The 2,000-guest ship was set to offer itineraries departing from Paranaguá, Itajaí and Rio de Janeiro between December 2026 and March 2027.

All cruises scheduled for the vessel in the region, including its trans-Atlantic crossings between Europe and South America, were cancelled.

MSC added that the Lirica is now scheduled to offer itineraries in the Mediterranean during the 2026-27 winter.

The company also said that, due to its refit, the MSC Musica will no longer be able to offer a previously scheduled trans-Atlantic crossing between Italy and Brazil in November.

With the MSC Lirica moving elsewhere, the 2006-built ship also had its originally announced schedule adjusted.

Instead of offering short cruises from Santos during most of the season, the Musica will now offer a mix of itineraries departing from Santos, Rio de Janeiro, Itajaí and Paranaguá.

The plans for the MSC Virtuosa, the MSC Divina and the MSC Splendida remain untouched, the company added.

Sailing in the region for the first time, the MSC Virtuosa is set to offer a series of seven-night cruises from Santos, Salvador and Maceió.

The MSC Divina will sail from Santos and Balneário Camboriú for short cruises to Brazil, as well as seven- and eight-night itineraries to Argentina and Uruguay.

Completing the company’s offering in the region, the MSC Splendida sails from Buenos Aires and Montevideo for cruises to the Brazilian coast.
