AIDA Cruises has announced that it donated 4,700 pieces of furniture from the AIDAluna, which was just drydocked at Chantier Naval in Marseille as part of the AIDA Evolution program.

The company said that the initiative was made possible through cooperation with the Hamburg association DER HAFEN HILFT! e. V., which organizes the distribution of furniture to non-profit organizations (NPOs).

“Thanks to AIDA and other partners at our side, cleared furniture has become a concrete aid for people in difficult life situations,” said Anja van Eijsden, chairwoman of DER HAFEN HILFT!.

Marc Spingler, director of hotel maintenance, drydocks and refit at AIDA Cruises, said: “We are very pleased that our well-preserved furniture is helping through the DER HAFEN association. By donating furniture, we are making our contribution and showing how help can be organized together with various partners.”

Free containers were provided by Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, HHLA and free transport of the containers was arranged by Daimler Truck AG to reach Hamburg.

AIDA said in a press release that more than 50 aid projects received furniture.
