Silversea’s Silver Shadow recently completed 25 years of service for the brand, after being delivered on September 2, 2000.

Built at the T. Mariotti Shipyard in Genoa, Italy, the 382-guest ship debuted as the third vessel in the company’s fleet.

Following the Silver Cloud and the Silver Wind, the Shadow was also the largest ship in Silversea’s fleet at the time.

The 25,000-ton vessel was christened at a ceremony held at the Italian port of Civitavecchia on September 14, 2000.

Janet Burke, formerly Silversea’s senior vice president of marketing and sales, served as the ship’s godmother.

Diagnosed with cancer before stepping down from her position at the company, Burke led a donation effort that raised more than $70,000 for cancer research while leading the Janet Burke/Silversea Endowment for Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Following its naming ceremony, the Silver Shadow sailed from Civitavecchia to New York City, kicking off a maiden season on the East Coast.

The ship then repositioned to the Caribbean in late October before offering cruises to South America during the 2000-01 season.

In 2025, the Silver Shadow offered Silversea’s 83-day Grand Voyage North Atlantic and Northern Europe, which explored 55 destinations in 16 countries.

The ship then kicked off a fall foliage season in Canada and New England, which will be followed by a series of seven- to 12-night cruises to the Caribbean.

The vessel is scheduled to return to the Mediterranean for a summer deployment in 2026, sailing from ports in Malta, France, Spain and more.

Extensevelly refurbished over the years, the Silver Shadow underwent a major modernization project in 2019 as part of Silversea’s Project Invictus.

The renovation included the creation of a new atrium area on deck 5 and major enhancements to all guest suites, corridors and most public spaces.

Highlights included the remodeling of the ship’s La Dame restaurant, as well as the Connoisseur’s Corner and the Casino.
