Culinary Offerings Highlighted on Mitsui Ocean Fuji

Chef Mikuni

Mitsui Ocean Cruises has unveiled the culinary offerings aboard its newest ship, the Mitsui Ocean Fuji, which debuted in December 2024.

The ship offers a culinary journey blending Japanese flavors with international favorites. Guests can enjoy traditional Japanese dishes such as omakase sushi and Anpan, alongside international cuisine. The ship also features a unique culinary collaboration with Chef Kiyomi Mikuni, who brings his “JAPONISÉE” style that fuses Japanese and French flavors.

Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available throughout the ship.

“Our culinary team, originating from various regions in Japan from north to south, has refined our dining program onboard our new Mitsui Ocean Fuji to offer the best of both Japanese and international cuisines,” said Teruhiko Omagari, general manager of guest experience at Mitsui Ocean Cruises.

“Prepared with the utmost care to help our guests create even deeper memories of their cruise, our menus feature colorful seasonal foods, inviting happiness around the table that captures the essence of Japan and beyond.”

The dining venues on Mitsui Ocean Fuji include:

  • The Restaurant Fuji (Main Dining): Offers Japanese and Western breakfasts, Japanese set lunches and rotating dinner menus featuring traditional Japanese cuisine and international favorites. Signature dishes include red sea bream with escargot butter sauce, prawns and caviar, crab chirashi sushi, and duck breast and senju scallion in soy broth. Complimentary white and red wines, draft beers, brewed teas, and coffee are available.
  • Hokusai Fine Dining: A prix-fixe, five-course fine dining experience by chef Kiyomi Mikuni, featuring dishes such as Pacific bluefin tuna tartare, Brittany blue lobster wrapped with caviar, and wagyu beef filet Rossini with foie gras and truffles. A gourmet cheese cart and a curated wine list complement the menu. (Cover charge applies.)
  • Terrace Restaurant Hachiyo: A buffet-style venue with global cuisine, fresh selections and ocean views. Offers all-day dining, including make-your-own stir fry, Japanese curries, ramen, tempura and a taco bar. In the evening, a seated omakase sushi menu is available. Guests can also enjoy outdoor dining.
  • Poolside Restaurant Kohan: A fast-casual option by the pool, serving comfort foods such as karaage (Japanese fried chicken), make-your-own burgers, smoothies, and signature cocktails. A separate seated bar offers an outdoor drinking experience.
  • Ocean Café: Located in Mitsui Ocean Square, this casual walk-up venue serves freshly brewed teas, coffees, brunch-inspired cocktails and small bites like anpan, pastries, egg sandwiches, salads and desserts.
  • Observation Bar 36: A sophisticated lounge with panoramic ocean views, featuring Japanese craft cocktails and the Fuji Sunset, a passion fruit-infused drink. A tea service highlights three specialty teas from Mount Fuji, paired with a Tamatebako box of Japanese delicacies.
  • Ocean Club: A bar specializing in Japanese gins, paired with ingredients like yuzu peel, smoked rosemary and red peppercorns. Offers an extensive selection of whiskies, including the rare Nikka Nine Decades, served in highballs, on the rocks, with water, or neat. Guests can also enjoy otsumami snacks.
