Ponant Offers Exclusive Voyages for 2026 Total Solar Eclipse

Lyrial

Ponant is offering three exclusive itineraries to observe the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026.

Departing from Iceland and Spain, the sailings are designed for optimal viewing at sea, with onboard specialists guiding guests through the event.

As the ship sets sail into the open sea, the captains will position the at the ideal vantage point, away from land and cloud cover.

Guests, equipped with observation glasses, will have the opportunity to listen to eclipse specialists as they explain the phenomenon. When totality occurs, the Moon will completely obscure the Sun, leaving only the solar corona visible.

The itineraries, off the coasts of Iceland and the Balearic Islands, are designed to offer the best possible observation conditions.

The three itineraries available for the 2026 total solar eclipse:

  • The Total Solar Eclipse in the Mediterranean will take place from August 6 to 14, 2026, aboard Le Boréal. The nine-day voyage departs from Nice, France, and features experts Serge Brunier, a science journalist and Joe Rao, a meteorologist and astronomer. Prices start from €6,450.
  • The Total Solar Eclipse in The Far North will run from August 1 to 14, 2026, aboard Le Lyrial. The 14-day journey departs from Longyearbyen, Svalbard, to Reykjavík, Iceland, and includes French astronauts Claudie and Jean-Pierre Haigneré, who will share their spaceflight experience. Prices start from €14,030.
  • The Total Solar Eclipse from Iceland to Ireland will be offered from August 10 to 18, 2026, aboard Le Lapérouse. The nine-day voyage will depart from Reykjavík and end in Dublin, Ireland. Guests will be accompanied by astronaut Jean-François Clervoy. Prices start from €6,390.

“I invite you to an extraordinary rendezvous on August 12th, 2026, somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea, off the Balearic Islands: for the moment of a cosmic “tick-tock”, the Moon will eclipse the Sun, and the stars will awaken in a fleeting night,” said Serge Brunier, science journalist and photographer specializing in solar eclipses.
