Marella Cruises is adding new visits to Cannes to its itineraries in the Western Mediterranean in the summer of 2025.
According to a statement sent to booked guests, the Marella Discovery is now set to visit the French destination during its seven-night “Highlights of the Mediterranean” cruise.
The new port of call replaces a previously scheduled visit to the French town of Saint-Raphaël, which had to be cancelled due to security reasons, the company said.
“You may be aware that we plan our itineraries a long way ahead of schedule. This sometimes means that we need to make changes as we draw closer to the sailing date,” Marella said in its statement.
“Recently, Saint-Raphaël contacted us to let us know that they won’t be renewing the security certification they need for ships like ours to call, which means they won’t have the shoreside security measures we need for the protection of the ship, crew and guests,” the company continued.
“While we’re disappointed to lose one of our off-the-beaten-track destinations, we do understand their decision and have been working through alternatives with French authorities,” Marella added, noting that Cannes serves as a getaway to an array of destinations.
“St. Tropez, Monaco, Nice and Antibes are all within easy reach. It’s a great spot for exploring the beautiful south of France,” the company said.
In addition to the new visit o Cannes, the Marella Discovery is set to visit other destinations in Spain, France and Italy during its “Highlights of the Mediterranean” itinerary.
Sailing roundtrip from Palma de Mallorca, the cruise features stops in the ports of Barcelona, Ajaccio, Livorno and Civitavecchia.
“We know how much you look forward to your holiday, so we appreciate any change to your plans is disappointing. We hope you’ll still enjoy a wonderful cruise,” Marella noted.
