SS United States Moves to New Pier Ahead of Departure

Pier to Pier Move

The SS United States successfully moved from Pier 82 to Pier 80 on Friday in preparation for her departure from Philadelphia on Monday.

It marks the first time in decades the ship has moved. On Monday, with tides timed down to the minute, the ship will depart Philadelphia.

Set to become the world’s largest artificial reef, the SS United States will sail from its current berth in Philadelphia to a docking area in Mobile.

Upon arriving in Alabama, the 1952-built ship will undergo preparations to get ready to be reefed off Florida’s coast.
