Oceania Cruises’ Nautica is marking 25 years in service in January 2025.
Originally part of Renaissance Cruises’ R Class, the ship was delivered by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard on Jan. 27, 2000.
After entering service a few days later, the 684-guest vessel spent its inaugural season cruising in the Mediterranean as the R Five.
As the fifth in a series of six identical ships that started in 1999 with the R One, the ship continued to sail for Renaissance Cruises through September 2001.
As the company ceased operations due to financial difficulties, the R Five was put in lay-up at the port of Gibraltar, UK.
After being sold to a group of investors, the vessel was made available for charters, with Pullmantur Cruceros later emerging as its new operator.
The Spanish cruise line operated summer seasons in Europe onboard the ship, which temporarily sailed as the R-5 Blue Dream.
The 30,200-ton vessel was also deployed in South America for a series of winter cruises in Brazil as part of Pullmantur’s partnership with CVC.
Oceania Cruises then chartered the ship in late 2005, renaming it Nautica.
The ship was later acquired by the premium brand, which has continued to operate it for the past 20 years.
Extensively refurbished, the Nautica underwent a major modernization project in 2014, as well as other minor projects in recent years.
The vessel also underwent an upgrade during its pandemic-related operational pause, debuting several enhancements as part of the OceaniaNEXT program.
Currently cruising in the South Pacific, the Nautica is scheduled to offer itineraries a wide range of destinations in 2025.
After completing the current winter season in French Polynesia, the ship is set to reposition to Europe via Australia, Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean and Africa.
In June, the vessel kicks off a summer season in the Mediterranean, which will be followed by itineraries in the Caribbean starting in mid-December.
