The Brazilian port of Maceió welcomed two cruise ships simultaneously earlier this month, with the MSC Grandiosa and the Artania docking at its cruise terminal.
According to local authorities, the vessels brought over 7,000 visitors during their calls, which took place on Jan. 9, 2025.
As part of a record-breaking cruise season, Maceió expects over 30 cruise calls in 2024-25. The vessels are expected to bring over 150,000 guests to the town located in Brazil’s Northeast region.
“Food, tours and service providers are among the main beneficiaries of this increase in tourist flow. Restaurants, souvenir and craft shops, tour agencies, and street vendors have been preparing to meet the growing demand from visitors,” the government said in a statement.
Offering seven-night cruises in Brazil, the MSC Grandiosa is set to make regular visits to Maceió, with 17 calls scheduled through early April.
Guests are also able to embark on the 4,888-pasenger ship in the port, embarking for a weeklong cruise that also includes visits to Santos, Salvador and Búzios.
The Artania arrived in Maceió with guests from various countries as part of a world cruise that departed from Germany in late December.
The ship’s 162-night itinerary includes visits to destinations in Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro, Búzios, Rio Grande and Ilhabela.
Other vessels set to make visits to Maceió during the 2024-25 season include the Seven Seas Mariner, the Seven Seas Splendor, the MSC Orchestra, the Norwegian Star and Holland America Line’s Volendam.
After starting in late November 2024, the cruise season in Maceió ends with a visit from the Costa Diadema on April 24, 2025.
Guests visiting the port are hosted at a new cruise terminal that opened in 2021.
