HX Expeditions is introducing the first series of cruises from New York to Greenland, with roundtrip flights departing from Newark Liberty International Airport.

Launching June 21, 2025, on Greenland’s National Day, the itineraries include dedicated flights on United Airlines’ direct route to Nuuk. Developed in collaboration with Greenlandic communities, the voyages offer authentic experiences along Greenland’s west coast aboard the MS Fridtjof Nansen.

“Greenland is on the cusp of transformation,” said Laali Berthelsen, local product manager for HX Expeditions and Nuuk resident. “With the opening of our new international airport and direct flights, Greenland is more accessible than ever. As interest grows, we have a responsibility to ensure tourism uplifts our communities and respects our environment.”

Joining all voyages is Aleqatsiaq Peary, an Inuk storyteller, musician and hunter from Qaanaaq, who is also a descendant of Robert Peary, the first person to reach the North Pole. Onboard, Peary will share his knowledge of Greenlandic traditions, connecting guests with remote communities and deepening their understanding of Northwest Greenland.

“If you’ve read about Arctic explorers, these itineraries offer a chance to experience it for yourself,” said Peary. “To see what they saw and feel what it was like to journey to the far north aboard their ships.”

Berthelsen added: “Here, the stories of polar explorers intersect with the wisdom of our Inuit ancestors, offering travelers a perspective that is both historic and deeply personal.”

New Itineraries from Newark

• June 21, 2025: Icy Giants of Disko Bay (from $13,823): The 12-day expedition offers a chance to witness Disko Bay’s towering icebergs, visit UNESCO-listed Ilulissat and explore Inuit settlements.
• July 1 and 15, 2025: Mythical Lands of the North (from $17,756): The 16-day expedition explores northwest Greenland, including Thule and the High Arctic, with opportunities to see narwhals, walruses and polar bears.
• July 29, 2025: Farthest North to Thule and Kane Basin (from $21,360): The 20-day journey offers in-depth exploration of Greenland, connecting with isolated northern communities.
• August 16, 2025: Northwest Passage – Through the Arctic Labyrinth (from $35,421): The 26-day expedition begins in Nuuk and ends in Nome, Alaska, crossing the Northwest Passage.
