Fincantieri, Politecnico di Torino, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, ENEA, Engineering, Reply, TIM and Tiscali are partnering to advance a cloud-to-edge infrastructure initiative, according to a press release.
The collaboration is part of the European Union’s Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) program, which supports the development of a European value chain for Cloud Infrastructure and Services (CIS).
The project seeks to enhance cloud interoperability in Europe, increase investments in edge and cloud technologies and support new market entrants to grow the ecosystem. Authorized by the European Commission in December 2023, the first IPCEI on Cloud Infrastructure and Services (CIS) allocates over €1.2 billion in state aid across Europe, including €409 million for Italy. Fostering collaboration between industry and research, the initiative enables companies to develop and integrate solutions across industrial sectors using advanced edge platforms, ensuring seamless connectivity between cloud resources.
The testing environment will serve as a shared platform for partners to utilize collective resources for experiments, feasibility studies and project validations. This approach aims to improve efficiency, accelerate the development of advanced technologies and support their future industrialization. It also marks a foundational step toward the commercial application of the project’s results, providing a scalable model to certify complex projects and drive the adoption of innovative solutions.
