Scenic Eclipse Completes Five Years in Service

Scenic Eclipse

The Scenic Eclipse is completing its fifth year of service in August. After being built at the Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia, the ship welcomed its first passengers on August 15, 2019.

As Scenic Cruises’ first ever oceangoing ship, the Eclipse was designed as a “discovery yacht” offering upscale cruising to remote parts of the globe.

After leaving its building yard, the 228-guest vessel sailed to Reykjavik, Iceland, for its maiden voyage. The 13-day itinerary ended in Quebec City after visiting destinations in Greenland and the Atlantic Canada.

The Scenic Eclipse then sailed to New York City, where it was christened by Godmother Dame Helen Mirren during a special ceremony on September 10, 2019.

Continuing its maiden season, the vessel sailed down the eastern seaboard of North America before visiting destinations in the Caribbean, Central and South America.

In late 2019, the Scenic Eclipse arrived in Antarctica ahead of its maiden season in the region, which included a series of expeditions that also sailed to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.

Currently sailing in the Arctic, the vessel is set to offer a series of itineraries to Greenland and Iceland before arriving in Canada in September.

The ship’s deployment then includes cruises to Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Caribbean ahead of repositioning voyages along the Brazilian coast.

In November, the Eclipse returns to Antarctica ahead of a program of expeditions departing from Ushuaia, Argentina.

Upon returning to Europe in early 2025, the ship is also scheduled to offer a series of cruises in the Mediterranean.

The month-long program features eight- to ten-night itineraries departing from Spain, Monaco and France.

According to Scenic, the Scenic Eclipse was built to sail in Antarctica and other remote regions of the world.

In addition to a Polar Class 6 rating, the ship is equipped with oversized stabilizers and other technologies, including a dynamic positioning system based on GPS.

Onboard, the Eclipse offers a selection of ten dining experiences, in addition to a complete spa and suites with butler service.
