Royal Caribbean Changes Icon’s Itinerary Due to Tropical Storm

Icon of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International is changing the itinerary of the Icon of the Seas due to a tropical storm that is currently affecting the Eastern Caribbean.

“Along with our Chief Meteorologist, Craig Setzer, we’ve been monitoring inclement weather along our intended path. Due to the adverse weather, we’ve modified our itinerary to provide you with the most enjoyable sailing experience,” the company said in a statement sent to guests who embarked on the ship on Aug. 10, 2024.

After sailing from Miami, the Icon of the Seas was originally scheduled to visit St. Thomas, St. Kitts and the Bahamas.

“We’ll now visit some of our popular Western Caribbean destinations – Cozumel, Mexico; Roatán, Honduras; and Costa Maya, Mexico,” Royal Caribbean added.

A previously scheduled visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay was also changed to give guests two additional hours on shore.

Initially set to take place between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, the visit to Royal Caribbean’s private island destination in the Bahamas is now set to start two hours earlier.

“While not the original itinerary planned, we know you’ll have a memorable time, and we’re excited to visit an extra port of call with you,” the company said.

“We’re terribly sorry for the last-minute change caused by weather – your safety is our top priority. Please know, being onboard is one of the safest places because we are faster and can move out of the way of any inclement weather,” Royal Caribbean added.

A second ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, was also diverted due to the adverse weather in the Eastern Caribbean.

According to a statement released by Norwegian Cruise Line, the vessel will now visit destinations in Honduras, Belize and Mexico.

Earlier this month, several ships from Carnival Cruise Line and Margaritaville at Sea were affected by another tropical storm.

After making its landfall as a Category 1 hurricane, Debby disrupted cruise operations in Tampa, Jacksonville and Charleston.
