Carnival’s New Study Highlights Benefits of Booking Holidays in Advance

New research by Carnival Cruise Line revealed that booking holidays in advance boosts mental health and financial well-being for Australians.

According to the results, the majority report feeling happier, more productive and less stressed when they have a future holiday planned. Despite financial pressures, 68 percent of Australians book holidays in advance for better deals and budgeting, with 25 percent feeling their trip is ‘free’ once paid off. Additionally, more than half (51 percent) of Aussie parents say booking their holiday several months in advance makes them feel like better parents.

“Planning ahead not only helps Aussies secure their ideal holiday, but it also allows them to relax and get excited well before they set sail,” said Kara Glamore, vice president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We’re thrilled to see that booking in advance gives our guests greater financial flexibility and peace of mind, enabling them to fully embrace the FUN experience we’re known for.”

Wellness advocate Dr. Gina Cleo commented on the results and added: “Having a trip to look forward to is proven to boost mood and overall wellbeing. Anticipation of a holiday triggers the release of dopamine, which makes us feel more joyful. Advanced planning also helps to reduce our stress hormone, cortisol.”

According to Dr Cleo, booking a holiday six months in advance is the optimal time to get the most out of a future trip, no matter how long or short. “This time frame between booking and going on holiday allows for a healthy level of anticipation. It eliminates planning-related stress so we can focus on all the positives a holiday can bring.”

The research further shows that 80 percent of Australians enjoy booking holidays months in advance, primarily to stay organized (81 percent). Other reasons include planning annual leave (36 percent), coordinating with groups (12 percent), shopping for outfits (11 percent) and planning social media content (4 percent).

 The results also revealed that 48 percent of Australians prefer booking all-inclusive holidays, covering accommodation, food and entertainment in the ticket price.
