CSSC Prototype

CSSC Cruises was recently presented with the title of Shanghai Design Innovation Center. The award was issued by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

A subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), CSSC Cruises Technology Development focuses on expanding the cruise industry in the country by coordinating the promotion of cruise operation, design and construction.

Integrating domestic and foreign resources, the subsidiary was first established by CSSC in 2018 and recently unveiled two self-developed cruise ship design models.

According to a local news report, the 150,000-ton and 80,000-ton detailed prototypes were successfully launched and aim to promote local industrial assets.

As part of its commitment to the sector, CSSC is also currently building two large cruise ships at the Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Yard in Shanghai.

Set to debut in 2023 and 2025, the newbuilds were ordered for Adora Cruises, a brand launched by the state-owned company in partnership with Carnival Corporation.

With a design based on Carnival’s Vista-Class ships, the 135,000-ton cruise vessels are set to become the largest cruise ships ever built in China.

According to Adora, the 4,000-guest ships were tailor-designed to serve the local market while presenting Chinese and Western style features.

A second subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Company, the Shanghai Shipbuilding Institute, was also awarded by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology this month.

Aiming at research and ship design, the institute introduced projects for several intelligent ships, including an LNG-powered car carrier, with capacity for over 9,400 vehicles, which is said to be the largest of its type.

Among the institute project’s are some of the first ammonia-powered cargo vessels, in addition to other low-carbon type ships.

In 2022, CSSC Cruises also won additional awards, including the title of Large Enterprise Open Innovation Center.
