Hannibal, Missouri Approves Deal with Viking Cruises

According to local reports, the Hannibal, Missouri city council has approved a 20-year ground lease agreement with Viking River Cruises ahead of the brand’s planned launch on the Mississippi River.

Viking will pay the city $1 per passenger in exchange for berth rights in the town, according to the report.

Another report said that Viking is expected to start calling in 2021 or 2022, and that its ships would carry up to 338 guests.

It is another step in Viking’s ambitious growth plan, as the company has 14 ocean-going ships on its orderbook, and major plans to expand its presence into the U.S. river market.
